THE WATER AND GLACIER FESTIVAL
The Water and Glacier Festival is being held for the first time in Tajikistan on June 10, 2024, at the cultural and entertainment park ‘Javonon’. It will be a festival celebrating water and glaciers as the foundation of life, well-being, prosperity, and sustainable development.
The festival is being organized by the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan within the framework of the Third High-Level International Conference on the International Decade of Action ‘Water for Sustainable Development’, 2018-2028, to be held from June 10 to June 13, 2024, in Dushanbe.
The main objective of the Water and Glacier Festival is to raise public awareness of the value of water as a vital resource and glaciers as the main sources of clean drinking water, as well as the need to treat them with care and preserve them for future generations. Along with positive messages, the festival will highlight the existing problems and challenges in this area and the need to mobilize efforts to overcome them.
The festival also aims to showcase Tajikistan’s policy and practice as a leading country in promoting water issues on the global agenda, as well as to draw attention to the UNGA Resolution declaring 2025 the International Year of Glacier Preservation and March 21 as World Glacier Day. This declaration is crucial in addressing issues related to climate change, glacier preservation, and eliminating water scarcity on the planet, and it stands as one of the most important achievements of Tajikistan on the international stage.
The Water and Glacier Festival consists of several components. The festival program includes an exhibition of folk crafts and creativity, an exhibition of Tajik national cuisine, an exhibition of various types of drinking water, a concert program featuring the country’s leading masters of arts, a fashion show of Tajik national clothing, and other show programs.
The festival will run from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM, providing guests and participants of the conference with a great opportunity to explore the rich history, culture, art, and traditions of the Tajik people while enjoying a pleasant and interesting evening in a friendly and festive atmosphere.
